INSPIRATION

Suspended over the ever-changing tides of the East River, lies the iconic Manhattan Bridge.  This historic marvel is constantly alive with a beating heart of energy, color, and sound. Amidst the light of day, subway cars buzz with a whooshing current of harmonics as they traverse to and fro across the bridge’s expanse.  Bicyclists and pedestrians crossing high above, peer down over the edge, catching their breath as they admire the superstructure’s reflective shadow cast by the clouds and sun in the waters below.

As the cooling of the summer air draws near, the honking horns and glowing headlights of cars racing along the bridge’s lower level create a beautiful, glistening symphony on the waves of the river. This dance of sight and sound continues its magical crescendo as it mixes and mingles with the beacons of lights emanating from nearby buildings.  It’s here, among this ever flowing, always changing reflection where we drew our inspiration for the TIRA DESIGN.

The shadow-like appearance throughout the design is created from a selective range of 7 colors signifying the various reflections. The handcrafted artwork truly comes to life using 100 knots per square inch, various pile heights and precise carving details, each evoking the reflections of the bridge’s levels seen in the rippling East River tides. It’s almost as if this still structure is an ever-moving facade, instead of solid pillars of concrete and steel.

INSPIRATION

Raw, powerful waters thunder ahead as you traverse the Athabasca trail. You’re intensely aware of the hard, striped strata rock that drops steeply to your left into a crystal blue pool far below. The spiced scent of pine and giant, rough trunks surround you as the mossy path narrows and the rumble of cascading water intensifies. Your eyes adjust to the ribbons of brilliant green, electric blue and vibrant red that make up the towering quartz walls as they carve along the canyon channels. The crisp, fresh air that once filled your lungs is suddenly taken away as you join the brave atop a slender concrete bridge and take in the splendor of the cavernous, hue-stained gorge and roaring rapids beneath your feet.

Our STRATA DESIGN is inspired by the gorgeous Stratum, sedimentary rock layers that lie one upon another, arranged by natural processes. Strata are typically seen as bands of different colored materials, varying in thickness which is uniquely captured in the rug design using 10 distinct color selections. The Strata rug is crafted from the finest New Zealand Wool and Hemp yarns artistically carved into cut high and low pile structures to imitate the organic nature of towering shale at the fascinating Jasper National Park, Canada.

Bring the vibrant, unpredictable beauty of the Athabasca Falls into your space with the STRATA DESIGN.

INSPIRATION

You’re overwhelmed with excitement as you feel your heart beat out of your chest while the rugged, safari vehicle crests a rocky ridge of the dry African prairie. Trumpets of elephants echo across rolling hills as the untamed landscape appears before your eyes, nothing between you and the wildlife but the bright morning sun and lush greenery of the bush. You breathe in the thick desert air from inside your dusty, open vehicle and search the horizon for a glimpse of a rare and powerful creature. Suddenly the ground beneath you starts to tremble as a vast herd of zebra make their way past you towards a glistening watering hole. It is dawn on the plains, and you bask in amazement and wonder as nature’s most magnificent sights come to life.

The beauty and splendor of the African Safari inspired our QUAGGA DESIGN. The Quagga is an extinct subspecies of plains zebra that once existed in South Africa. Walk amongst the wild beasts on this textured area rug made from superior New Zealand wool and hemp yarns. The 13 carefully selected colors that make up this design transport you to the dynamic canvas of a game reserve.  Designed with cut low and cut high pile heights and an intricate finish of precise carving techniques, the rug mimics the varying terrain and vulnerable landscape of the African outback.

Put the noise of modern life far behind you as you feel the soft threads of the QUAGGA rug beneath your feet. Sit back, relax and toast the African sunset tonight, and every night.

INSPIRATION

Hovering high above sun-drenched, rolling hills in Spain, you are captivated by a view that our ancestors cherished.  Hillsides are covered with ancient olive trees, their gnarled branches covered in dusty, gray-green leaves.   You observe subtle variations of color produced by the play of light on the hillsides, creating pockets of deeper green in valleys, lighter tones facing the sun, and hints of lavender as light shifts and the day lengthens.  The grove of olive trees brims  with subtle complexity and the natural beauty of growing something both lovely and useful.

Moving closer, you discover that each single tree has its own little universe of complex interaction.  The branch, a symbol of peace, bears leaves aflutter in the sultry Spanish breeze, revealing slight variations in color and texture.  Finally, you analyze one single leaf, discovering veins that nourish the ancient tree, making each leaf a vital part of the tree and the olive grove itself.

Inspired by the subtle, vital harmony of a Spanish olive grove, OLIVA DESIGN is a masterpiece in pure New Zealand wool.  Skillful inverse carving creates individual leaves, and 15 colors are carefully layered to evoke the lovely interplay of motion and light inspired directly by nature.

It’s this mix of old world beauty and new world innovation that inspired our BAKU DESIGN.  The design takes its influence from the ornate and intricate architectural features found in the old city of Baku, while the blossoming florets signify the continuous and rapid growth of its Metropolitan area.
